Vartanova Marina Lvovna – (Center of the Study of Eurasian integration processes; The Institute of Socio-Political Research under the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPR RAS))
Drobot Elena Valerevna – (Vyborg branch of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation)
For several years, relations between Russia and the collective West have been in crisis. The political crisis stands in the way of systemic solutions for economic cooperation between the two unions – European and Eurasian. For the Eurasian Union, deep economic integration with the EU is extremely important. First, the EU is the largest trading partner of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan: it accounts for 50 3 % of total exports and 40 8 % of total imports of the EAEU countries. It should be noted that according to the results of 2016, the EAEU imported from APEC countries by 1 5 % more goods (42, 3 %, due to the growth of supplies from China, South Korea and ASEAN countries) than from the EU. Secondly, Europe could be an important source of capital. Thirdly, the EU could play an important role in solving the problems of modernization of the EAEU countries and serve as a source of technological renewal.
