Abstract:

The digital revolution that has gripped the global economy is impressive in scale, pace, and geography. Every year the intensity of introducing new technologies into the production and maintenance of human needs is growing. The digital wave embraces new regions and has an increasingly tangible effect on the economy. The article discusses the opportunities and prospects for the development of multi-scale enterprises in the real sector of the economy in the context of digital change. The economic potential of digital transformations is estimated, as well as the potential effect on gross domestic product from the introduction of digital technologies for gross domestic product. Special attention is paid to the regional aspect of digitalization of enterprises on the example of the Lipetsk region. This region is one of the investment-attractive subjects in the Central Federal District and is located in the zone of «medium-strong innovators» in the overall rating of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR), which makes it interesting for analysis from the point of view of several aspects: import substitution, international competition, innovative transformations. The article also assesses the impact of digital technologies on the development of society and reflects the benefits of using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology both in Russia and specifically in the Lipetsk region.
