The monograph is devoted to the history of the formation of modern statehood in the republics of the North Caucasus. The author focuses on the national issue and interethnic relations in the ethnically related republics: Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and the Republic of Adygea that became the main background for social transformation and ethno-political reconstruction of the country at the end of the 20th century. On the basis of a large factual material the monograph investigates and analyzes the causes of ethnic conflicts, methods of resolution and their consequences. We reveal general patterns and specific features in these aspects at both interethnic and intra-ethnic levels, as well as settlement methods.
