The sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation by the West are not something new for our country. This is evidenced by the historical experience of the predecessors of modern Russia. It is the Empire that has been formed over decades that contributes to the effective overcoming of newly imposed sanctions and the timely introduction of retaliatory measures aimed at maintaining the independence and competitiveness of our country's economy. On the basis of the study revealed that the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation there are both negative aspects and positive incentives for the economic development of our country and proposed possible solutions. The article will be of interest to specialists in the field of foreign economic activity, as well as to all those interested in the problems of international economic relations.
