The article is devoted to the analysis of the transformation processes occurring in the trade sphere of Russia, their influence on the domestic small business, the final consumer. The change in the paradigm of development of the trade sphere, deep differentiation in the wholesale and retail chains, as a result of which small enterprises were found to be uncompetitive and vulnerable in the market, are shown. The objective nature of the replacement of a family enterprise with a systemic, investment business has been substantiated. The characteristic of a new social and economic reality is given, due to the fact that many entrepreneurs are forced to go out of business and become rentiers or hired managers. The role and prospects of small trading business in the new economic reality are explored, directions for achieving a balance in the development of large and small businesses are formulated. Concrete tools are proposed for merging and incorporating medium and small trade enterprises in order to achieve their competitiveness in the market. The new approaches to state regulation of integration processes in domestic trade, which allow smoothing the pressure of the system business on the market and transform non-system enterprises, are substantiated.
