In connection with the formulation of tourism development strategies and programs in many regions of the Russian Federation, the analysis of the impact of globalization processes on the local tourism industry is relevant, taking into account possible positive and negative effects. The aim of the article is to review the approaches of various economic schools (such as Marxism, neorealism, liberalism, as well as institutional economics, social constructivism and tourism economics) to globalization studies. Based on the analysis of the views of supporters and critics of globalization, it is concluded that an integrated approach is necessary for an objective assessment of the effects and problems of globalization in the strategic management of tourism development.
