The article considers ongoing methods of environmental management in the local authorities of the municipal of education (MOE) ”Yekaterinburg city” – the capital of the Ural Federal district and Ural economic region. Justified by that high degree of urgency of solving ecological problems on the territory of the municipality, the environmental work is among the permanent and most important functions of local governments. Effective implementation of the environmental powers of local authorities, in accordance with national legislation and international requirements, requires implementation of modern tools. Based on the positive experience of developed countries, where environmental management becomes an integral part of the organizations various activities, proposed the introduction of administrative activity of local government bodies MO "city" environmental management in accordance with international standard ISO 14001. Given the complexity of the organizational structure of the municipal administration, as well as acquired experience in the implementation of the model consistent implementation of SAM in separate parts of the organization, and formulates recommendations concerning the application of the management system for the administration of "Ekaterinburg city". We have marked innovations in version of ISO 14001:2015 that are needed to be in focus in the implementation of the environmental management system in local self-government bodies of "Ekaterinburg city".
