The authors raise questions about the inclusion in the labor market of the Republic of Karelia representatives of the third age, the need for the use of which increases due to the intensification of the aging process. The empirical base of the study was the results of a survey of 527 respondents living in Petrozavodsk, Medvezhyegorsk and Sortavala municipal districts. It is established that the reserves of growth of the level of employment of the studied category of citizens in the Republic of Karelia are 18.5 p. p. It is determined that the age, number of family members, level of income and education, health characteristics are significant factors affecting the continuation of employment at retirement age. On the basis of discriminant analysis, a typology of labor strategies of the third age population was developed, which describes the behavior of 78.9% of the study group. The proposed typology can be used to improve the state policy to increase employment in the region.
