The article considers the innovations applied in the sphere of retail trade. The retail sector is now undergoing a major transformation, due to innovative technologies that provide unprecedented opportunities. The author analyzes the main indicators of trade development in the dynamics, and a comparative analysis of the data collected in the Belgorod region, with indicators in the whole country. The importance of retail trade for the development of the region's economy is noted. The role of small business in the development of trade is determined. The expediency of introducing elements of the digital economy into trade is argued. The main trends in the field of information in trade are presented. A set of measures to stimulate innovation in trade is proposed. The author also dwells on one of the most important problems of information technology development – information security.
