An important condition for restoring the economy of the Republic of Crimea and improving the welfare of its population is to ensure the effective functioning of the trade sector. The article presents the results of the study of the development of trade in Crimea in 2010-2017. The authors analyze statistical data, which made it possible to compare the trends in the development of trade in the Crimea as a subject of Ukraine (2010-2013) and as a subject of the Russian Federation (2014-2017), and on this basis to assess changes related to the new status of the region. We highlight the major difficulties in the development of trade of the Republic of Crimea after accession to the Russian Federation, such as increase in consumer prices for goods and services, disruption of the commodity circulation system, deterioration in the composition of trade entities, insufficient information supply of trade entities, inefficient structure of investments in trade, reduction of foreign trade, and ways to solve them.
