Abstract:

The article analyzes examples of successful interactions between labour origin countries and diasporas. We reveal the crucial role of remittances in economic development of donor countries of foreign labour force. We prove the need to implement repatriation programs for former compatriots.

Highlights:

• Over the past 15 years, the number of international migrants has increased by 40 %.
• Due to globalization, the activity of diasporas and remittances from labor migrants to their homeland play a special role in economic development.
• Over the past 10 years official remittances to developing countries has more than tripled.
• There is a direct positive relation between education level and the decision to make remittances.
• Migration of professionals is less seen as a "brain drain", but encourages countries to promote business linkages and develop repatriation programs.
