Abstract:

Unequal development of the territories is explained by geographical, economic and socio-demographic characteristics. However, in the new economic reality previously unused potential of territories could become a new growth point for the development of competitive advantages within the region. On the basis of the research, conducted by cognitive modelling method, the article presents two types of expertize for determining the potential of territories and the sequence of activities for their further development. The methodology for expertize conduction will be useful for the researchers, who work on regional development issues. Propositions presented in the article can be used in dealing with issues regarding rural development and improvement of the region's competitiveness.

Highlights:

► rural youth residential and industrial complexes (RYRICs) is the concept of proportional solution of housing, social and industrial problems of rural areas
► as a further development of the process of the territories integrated development it is necessary to provide a scenario of a development using the existing potential for the development of local farms or neighboring municipal units
► a common approach to a territorial development will ensure the harmonious development of all the territorial units with the designed transformation of industrial and migration processes within the region
