Publishing Houses are interested in getting state financial support, which has been well exemplified by the competition for state support of the programs for scientific journals development and promotion. This competition has been held within the framework of the project of federal special-purpose program. Competition conditions and requirements have enabled us to analyze the information about the journals and to make certain conclusions (based on this information) about the current state of the Russian publishing complex. The participating journals have been appraised in accordance with more than 90 characteristics, the majority of them being discussed in this article.
