Abstract:

The article analyses practicability of scientometric methods use for assessing scientific activity efficiency. In particular, a short excursus into the history of the term “citation index” is provided and there also given an assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of such indexes use for the purpose of the evaluation of the impact of an article on scientific society. Finally, the article presents the author’s view of a peer-review system as an alternative to formalized scientometric methods.
