Abstract:

The author considers specific features of food security in Russia, the condition of the country’s agro-industrial complex, the volume of agricultural support in developed foreign countries, and the challenges our Motherland faces to provide food security. Subject. Throughout the whole history of mankind, the issue of food supply has remained one of the most relevant national security issues for all states in the world. Since creation of the United Nation Organization (UN) the international community has started to pay careful attention to overcoming the food deficit. Methodology. Purpose and tasks. The term “food security” means such state of the country’s economy and agro-industrial complex that, upon preservation and improvement of the living environment, regardless external and internal conditions, allows the country’s population to regularly get the eco-friendly and healthy food for affordable prices, in the amount no less than scientifically proven standards. Results. According to the FAO’s definition, food security is strictly functioning system that provides all classes of the population with the food in compliance the accepted physiological standards. Conclusions. The country’s food security can be ensured only as a part of the complex approach. Moreover, its basic components shall be fixed at the legal level.
