The article presents the analysis of formation mechanisms of the types of sales management systems (SMS) which are used by enterprises in modern Russian markets. The types of SMS are classified. Basing on the answers of the respondents, the most important functions of the sales management systems were pointed out. The main reasons for applying a simplified approach to the formation of SMS are formulated.
