Under the Western sanctions, the management of international reserves is of particular research interest. The paper presents the functionality of the structural elements of the international reserves of the Russian Federation in comparison with similar characteristics of reserves in foreign countries. Their criteria for the level of sufficiency are defined in the article. New criteria of threshold levels of indicators of economic security of the Russian Federation are offered. The obtained results can be used in the formation of a national adaptive strategy of economic security in international reserves management. The conclusions made by the authors indicate that an effective organization of international reserves management is an important condition for the foreign economic policy of the Russian Federation, which will contribute to adequate economic security.
