The authors highlight the essence of food policy, its content in the face of rising competition on world markets. They estimate the condition of ensuring the country's food products in the context of food security, the necessity of solving problems on import substitution of basic food commodities. The authors examine the historical stages of formation of food resources and proposed priorities of socio-economic development of the agricultural sector as a key basis for the solution of the food problem on the basis of its modernization.
