Abstract:

Integration for many countries of the world is a way to expand markets through the formation of sustainable production and trade relations. At the same time, an important regional level of building economic relations is often overlooked from the field of view of politicians and scientists. The article provides an overview of the main theories and models to explain integration at the regional level. The systematization of scientific works allowed to establish that the development of integration processes at the regional level can be explained in the framework of process-industrial and economic-geographical approaches, organically complementing each other and allowing to reveal economic relations on two key aspects of integration: integration into global value chains and the movement of factors of production in order to obtain economies of scale. It is shown that regions can benefit more from integration if they follow the recipes of "optimal" integration of M. Moussa and wider use of international integration in order to create new industries for the region by attracting scarce resources, establishing preferential treatment for producers of final and intermediate products.
