The relevance of the studied sphere of tourism is due to the need to pay special attention to the importance of public authorities and local self-government tourism development, because with an effective process of management of the development of this sphere in a certain area, the latter can receive a significant positive socio-economic effect. The aim of the article is to study the importance of tourism development for socio-economic systems. The article defines the factors influencing the development of tourism and the region; macroeconomic indicators of tourism activity of the top 5 countries of the world for 2015 and 2017 according to the latest data of experts of the world economic forum are given; in the final part recommendations aimed at increasing the volume of tourist services in the region are offered. The methodological basis of the research is represented by the methods of scientific generalization, comparative analysis, complex, systematic and situational approaches.
