Abstract:
The occurrence of new companies is an important structural element of the developed countries and has a positive impact on economic growth, the emergence and spread of innovation, the rise of productivity and job creation. Understanding the determinants of the new companies appearance will effectively stimulate the increase in their number, which will have a positive impact on the entire economy. This article analyzes and empirically assesses the impact of the determinants of the new companies appearance in the regions of Russia. For most industries, traditional factors have a significant impact (for example, population size, concentration of economic activity, unemployment, implementation of various measures of state support, and a number of others). However, empirical consideration of spatial relationships between factors (using the spatial error model and the spatial lag model), which are not captured by traditional empirical methods of assessment, shows that the statistical significance of factors and estimates of their impact change significantly, which allows us to refine the results obtained in alternative studies. For example, neighboring "more successful" regions "pull over" the economic activity of the region, reducing the number of new firms in its territory.
